Not all of our time with closed doors has gone to waste. While many of our customers and pet parents have been wondering when The Paw Resort & Wellness Centre will reopen and how soon you can get your pet in for a tidy-up, all of the gals in the Paw Spaw have been diligently studying to become certified Fear Free pet stylists!

Taking The “Pet” Out of “Petrified”

What does this mean, exactly? We know that when it comes to pet grooming in Brandon, Manitoba, many pet parents often assume that going to the groomer is a necessary evil. We are here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be! At The Paw Resort and Wellness Centre, our pet stylists are empowered to greatly reduce your pets’ stress. We follow Fear Free’s mission— “to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by inspiring and educating the people who care for them.”

The Fear Free program has helped our groomers, new and old, learn and reinforce a number of new techniques and strategies to minimize stress on your pets, including but not limited to:

• How to recognize even the most subtle signs of stress

• How exactly to help a pet who is feeling stressed.

• How to set the salon environment up to help ensure Fear Free grooms. This includes shop layout, sights, sounds, smells, entrances and exits, and more.

• How to teach animals to love the grooming table, clippers, the bathtub, the blow dryer, grooming shears, the groomer’s loop, and more.

• How to communicate verbally and non-verbally to ensure that pets trust their groomers.

All of these measures, processes, and educational opportunities are being put into practice at The Paw Spaw to ensure the health, safety, and comfort of our beloved pets. We are looking forward to seeing all of our furry family members when our doors reopen!
